Origin Verification

Overview

  • Origin verification is conducted by targeting the domestic importer, exporter, producer, and issuing authority of the origin-supporting documents. It also targets the exporter or producer of the FTA contracting party. This process aims to confirm the origin of the exported and imported goods and verify whether preferential tariff treatment was duly granted.
  • Origin Verification is conducted after categorizing them into export verification and import verification and different modality for origin verification is applied under each FTA

Verification Modalities by Agents

  • Direct verification :
    - Direct verification is conducted by the customs authority of the importing party, targeting the overseas exporter.
  • Indirect Verification :
    - The customs authority in the exporting country conducts origin verification on the domestic exporter at the request of the importing country. Officials from the importing country’s competent authority may join the verification as observers.
  • Combination of Direct and Indirect Verification :
    - This approach refers to an approach that combines both methods.
